Title: Autumn in Chamonix
Date: 19/10/2009

These days are coming!

We had a little snow in the valley a couple of days ago, only a few flakes really not enough to get excited about but winter is definitely on its way and it been really cold for a good few weeks now. Up in the mountains its looking pretty white and the cold conditions mean that anything that falls is going to stick around from now on.

Autumn is always beautiful out here and this one has been exceptional with endless cold crisp clear sunny days.

A couple of days ago I went out for a bike ride with one of the local French riders, I should have seen what was coming when he turned up with the shaved legs and thighs that looked about twice the size of mine.
Anyway, we drove down the valley to Cluses for a quick afternoon tour, he said we wouldn't be long as his wife was working in a few hours and he had to be back. 2 hours and many cols later we still seemed to be turning away from where we parked the van and Lake Geneve was getting closer. Eventually we steered back towards Cluses and started heading the right way. Piere said a quick 'shall we just take in Mont Saxonne for one last small climb'? Thinking this was just in jest I of course laughed and said 'yeah why not do em all'! Of course we then headed up Mont Saxonne and I learned once again that sarcasm just doesn't work in French!

Anyway a great little 3 hour, 90km afternoon tour and we were back in time for his wife to go to work albeit only just!

I was hanging on the whole day and I can see that I need to up the ante a little when I go out for an afternoon cruise or I ain't never going to win that Tour de France!

Back here in the office things are going well. The courses are filling fast and Ruth is beside me swearing at her computer which I take to mean she's busy working. We're kind of getting on top of how everything works now, operations are fluid and the office is a serene and calm place to work.

I have now moved the Norway Lyngen LAps trip to next year (2011). If anyone wants to go to Lyngen in 2011 we'll be taking reservations for this trip from now as it'll book up pretty quickly and we need to reserve the dates with the Lyngen Lodge asap.

I'm heading over to London for the Ski show on Wednesday, I'll be around for the weekend so if anyone is in the vicinity pop in and say hello, I'll hanging out on the TSA stand as usual.

More to come soon,

Neil.
